Villa Molinar – Tips for your stay
Air-condition / climatisation
All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning/ heating. Each unit can be individually adjusted according to your comfort. As the environment for us is very important, please turn it off when not needed. You will find the remotes for the A/C on the bedside table in the rooms.
Airport & taxi
Nowadays the airport is very well-organised, they handle more than 1000 flights per day in the high season. But be aware that the airlines suffered a lot during Covid and still a lot of them are not adequately staffed, so try to check in the day before online and try to avoid doing this at the airport. In my experience, this can cost you hours (!) if you do not have a ticket with fast lane or business class or similar that lets you bypass the line.
Security control at Palma Airport usually is very efficient. They have two big centres with a lot of lines. If you see it the first time you will maybe think: my god, I will miss my flight. But then 5-10 minutes later it is done.
So in my opinion the bottleneck is check-in and baggage drop-off dependent on the airline.
Please bare in mind that there still is an obligation to wear a mask on all sorts of public transportation.
The taxi rank to leave the airport is located at Arrivals sidewalk of passenger terminal, level 0, while if you arrive to Palma Majorca airport by taxi, taxi rank arrivals are located at Departures sidewalk of passenger terminal, level 2.
Taxis operating at the airport are white with a stripe with four red lines on a golden background that cross the front of the taxi in the middle and the front doors.
Baby kit
If you want to come with the little ones, do not worry! We will provide you with the necessary equipment: baby cot, high chair and kettle are at your disposal.
Barbecue
If you are planning your private barbecue, please feel free to use the one that is is situated in the outdoor area. Please, make responsible use of the barbecue.
Bathrooms / hairdryer
In the bathrooms of Villa Molinar we take care that all you need is on site. Toilet paper and towels. We also placed a hairdryer for your convenience.
Beach
The nearest beach is el Molinar. El Molinar beach is located in a small bay between two marinas and is 150 meters from your apartment. The coastal area is about 2 km with a nice promenade with bike path that connects the Arenal with Palma.
But Palma offers much more. Here is a list of the beaches of the city:
- Can Pere Antoni beach
It is two kilometers from the center and is famous for the magnificent views of the cathedral from its 800 meters of white sand; its access could not be more comfortable or easy, you can get there walking or renting a bike.
- Palma Beach
It is on the east coast of the capital and is a perfect beach for those who love walks along the seashore because it is long, as long as 5 kilometers; it is a beach of fine white sand, clear waters and little waves so it is also ideal for those travelling with children because it does not lack any service.
- Ciudad Jardín Beach
The bike path also reaches Ciudad Jardín, east of Palma; it is a large and comfortable beach, with all the services you may need and an area of restaurants and hotels nearby.
- Cala Estancia
A little beyond Ciudad Jardín is Cala Estancia, a beach just 200 meters long, clear waters and white sand, it is a beach sheltered from the wind near the promenade, a promenade where you can enjoy a rich gastronomic offer.
- Cala Mayor
It is in the southwest of Palma and is a sheltered beach of fine white sand and crystal clear waters; it has a blue flag ( distinctive that guarantees criteria for environmental information and education, safety, water quality, environmental management and services) and is easily accessible.
Currently, Mallorca has a total of 23 blue flag beaches and Santanyí is the Mallorcan municipality with more blue flags on its coast. Here is a list of the most recognized beaches (updated 2022):
- Santanyí: Cala Gran, Cala Llombards, Cala Mondragó (Sa Font de n’Alís), Cala Santanyí, S’Amarador.
- Felanitx: Cala Ferrera, Cala Marçal, Cala Sa Nau, Porto Colom (Platja S’Arenal).
- Muro: Muro.
- Palma: Cala Estància, Cala Major, Playa de Palma (El Arenal).
- Sant Llorenç des Cardassar: Cala Millor (Cala Nau), Sa Coma.
- Santa Margalida: Can Picafort, Son Bauló, Son Serra.
- Ses Salines: Es Dolç (Es Port).
- Son Servera: Cala Millor, Es Ribell.
- Pollença (Cala Barques, Cala Molins
Beds
Villa Molinar has four double bedrooms. Two to the front with sea views and two other in the back that offer more privacy.
Bikes & E-Scooters
Palma is ideal for bicycle rides. At the coastal line, you have the amazing bike path that connects Porto Pi in western Palma with el Arenal far in the east. Passing by el Molinar where you stay. Be a little bit careful: the electrical scooters are very popular here and they are allowed to use bike paths too. In my opinion a mistake. A lot of them obviously are faster than 25 km/h. But we can´t change it so be careful and watch out!
Anyhow, it is really very pleasurable to enjoy this bike path and discover the area. In Palma, you can also use the bike very easily as a lot of the areas are restricted for use by car so the traffic in the old town is not really problematic.
If you want to rent a bike you will find most rental stores around the Passeig del Borne close to the cathedral.
One example a lot of our clients were happy with is Call & Ride Bike Rental. You can pre-book your bikes with their website super easily: https://rentle.store/callnride/shop
They also rent E-Bikes and E-Scooters. To drive them you need to wear a warning vest in Palma. Very important and can result in high fines if you don´t do that …
The other place where you can find a lot of bicycle rentals is in El Arenal. A lot of race bikers use Mallorca since decades to do their winter and spring training so you are also able to rent really good sportive bikes if you like.
Just have a look yourself on google. Study a little bit of the reviews to see which rental store has the best choice for you and go ahead. It is super easy and will provide a lot of fun for your and your friends!
Do you want to rent something else? From Harley-Davidsons or quads to Yachts, you can rent everything on Mallorca. If you need assistance please do not hesitate to ask us!
Breakfast in the neighborhood
Hotel Portixol
The breakfast buffet is excellent and all the staff speak very good English. A good choice with personal service.
Es Vaixell
Small bar-café in the first line of Portixol. Simple menu, breakfast, “bocadillos”, salads and other small dishes. Special is the “llonguet”, the typical bread of Palma de Mallorca. Oval, with a small slit in the middle and a certain texture. Up to 200 llonguets are prepared here every day.
Enco
Restaurant primarily in Portixol, Italian small dishes, such as salads, carpaccio, etc. In the morning you can enjoy a delicious croissant and coffee.
Bus
Just maybe 150m from your accommodation you find bus stop no. 444. Here, the bus lines 18, 28 and 35 pass by. Sometimes you really have to wave your hands to make them stop. Anyhow, the buses are all relatively new and the frequency is okay! To go to Palma is not only cheap but comfortable. To go to the airport we recommend a taxi, the ride by bus is 40 minutes or more.
Please bare in mind that there still is an obligation to wear a mask on all sorts of public transportation.
In Mallorca you can find two types of buses. On the one hand, those belonging to the EMT and operating in the center of Palma, and the TIB, yellow buses that are responsible for linking the different towns of Mallorca.

It is essential to know that the insurance covered with the European insurance card explicitly only includes treatments covered by the local health service in this country. In Spain, for example, all dental treatment is excluded. If you have to pay for treatment, you should always get a receipt so that you can later apply for reimbursement from the insurance provider in your home country.
For instance, the German Liaison Office summarises further important information for Health Insurance Abroad on its website www.dvka.de. There you can also find the leaflet “Health Insurance Abroad”. The brochure “Holidays in Spain” can also be downloaded there.

Parking places
In general, it is always possible to find a parking space if you are prepared to park a few metres away from the house. There are basically good times to look for a parking space. And not so good.
As in almost all residential areas, it is easier to find a parking space in the morning than in the late afternoon when the Spanish come to the beach. There is no charge from the municipality for public parking.
You can do everything important for your daily needs by walking, taxis are relatively cheap and the bus stop is around the corner. Buses run regularly and are also cheap.
Car parks in Palma are expensive and often overcrowded. There are also a wide variety of entry restrictions into the city (“Acire”) that can result in heavy fines, even if you accidentally disregard them, which is easy to do.
Police
In Spain we have three different police types:
Policia Local
They are responsible for “normal” things around the neighbourhood. Also armed but more acting to control that the local regulations are in place. If you do a party for instance in the courtyard and it is later than 11 pm you might receive a visit of them.
Guardia Civil
More for criminal offences and – as they explained me – more “complicated” things … Whatever exactly this means and if the other police squads would agree I don´t know either. Under control of the regional government but put in place of the national government.
Policia Nacional
They are directly in the line of control of the national government and moreless a little bit paramilitary organization. I once saw a lot of people fighting with each other. When I called the police they came. Very quick. Super efficient … Was like ballet choreography in police work … You should not have them on the other side 😉
112 or 902.102.112?
Sounds complicated? Yes, it is. There are often problems with responsibility and this also often changes during the process.
The good news is: Just call 112 if you have an acute problem. They will help you and normally they can forward you to an English-speaking person.
If you have to make a denouncement because something is stolen or you lost a document and your embassy asks you to go to the local police the Spanish established quite a good system where you can denounce over the phone in at least English and German at 902.102.112 from Monday to Friday between 9:00 – 21:00. If you made your denouncement over the phone you just have to go to a police station they tell you to sign it. More information about this really well organised process you will find on the website of Spanish national police: https://www.policia.es/_es/idioma_en_policia.php
Recycle
Separating garbage is a small gesture that has a big impact on the environment. That is why we have put a trash separator bin in the kitchen to make it easier for you. In addition, the garbage bins of the town hall that are in the streets, are also recycling bins. You can find the nearest one in Bernat Visca street. When you leave your apartment go to the left side and at the first street turn left again. There you will find it.
Restaurants
Together with Portixol, Molinar is one of Palma’s best nightlife districts. Even though it’s so quiet, but you can eat well everywhere within walking distance. And there are also some really good places.
And you are lucky that your hosts love food. And they write about their food experiences both privately and for the company. So all you have to do is read about what suits you best!
Enjoy it!
Shopping

Tap water
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is whether tap water in Palma can be consumed. The truth is that there are some areas where water consumption at home is not advisable. However, in the city of Palma, the water supplied by Emaya is potable and meets all the quality standards established by national and international legislation and it is meticulously controlled.
In addition, when you walk around the city you will find drinking water fountains specially designed to fill reusable bottle and canteens. It is important for you to know that this is water from EMAYA’s general network treated only with a carbon filter to improve its taste.
Taxi
We usually call “Taxis Palma Radio“. They have an app that you can download in App or Google play Store and it is really great because if you do not speak Spanish you can still very easily grab a cab!
Please bare in mind that there still is an obligation to wear a mask on all sorts of public transportation.
Currently there is a lot of demand for cabs and little availability, if you have no luck with Taxa Palma Radio, try to call Taxi Teléfono ( +34 687 50 07 18).
Washing machine
Villa Molinar has a washing maschine located in the room next to the BBQ, you need to access by exiting the property to the garden and enter on the left side to this room. So you are free and flexible to wash whenever you want. Please consider from time to time to clean the tile strainer. We also provide a flat iron for your disposal .
